Hemp + Heart Co. is built by founder Shelby DeGroot and is inspired by her journey navigating autoimmune issues, motherhood, and an increasingly toxic world. After developing an autoimmune issue related to stress and lifestyle, Shelby under went a journey of independent learning and education. Focused on immune system recovery and exploring everything from cold therapy, breathwork, elimination diets, lifestyle changes, herbalism, natural remedies and more, she overhauled her life and routines at the same time as entering into Motherhood. Becoming conscious of what our bodies are exposed to through food, cosmetic products, and environmental exposures led to life altering shifts in perspective and action and birthed Hemp + Heart Co.. Ditching toxic personal care and skin care products led Shelby to learn about soap making and bring a life long dream to fruition, a dream of formulating, creating and enjoying hand made bath and body products which she now recognizes as lifestyle products. It's just one step in her journey of ditching toxin's, heavy metals, synthetic chemicals and reclaiming ownership over her immune system, well being and overall health. Today, the journey is just beginning as Shelby seeks to help the world ditch toxins for a healthier future for children to live and grow in while also advocating for Hemp and a life line to a sustainable, prosperous, thriving future all while aiming to point back to Christ (which is another part of her story of awakening). 

Unfortunately and fortunately, these health issues and the journey of awakening are not unique ones but ones shared by many women, men, mother's, fathers, and children alike. Discomfort and dis ease can be strong catalysts for change and awareness often leads us to take action. We encourage independent research in every area of life and understanding of biased sources of information vs. independent studies. Funding and biased lenses unfortunately do impact the information we absorb so being mindful and discerning is critical.

Fulfillment and shipment of your order will take place within 3-5 business days of your order being placed. Shipping timeframes are dependent upon the method and timeframe selected at checkout and based on the courier. 

Do you ship outside of Canada?

Hemp + Heart Co. currently ships within Canada and looks forward to further to expansion in the future. 

What are the benefits of hemp?

The Cold Process Bar Soap is vegan. The Lotion Bar is made with beeswax which is an animal by product. We do not test our products on animals.

No, our products do not contain THC or CBD. We use hemp seed oil, which is rich in nutrients but free from cannabinoids, making it legal, non-psychoactive, and safe for all ages. Our skincare products will not get you high and are safe for all ages. Hemp seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant and contains no THC or CBD—only skin-loving fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Are the products vegan?

What is cold process soap, and what are its skincare benefits?

Cold process soap is made using traditional saponification, where natural oils and lye react to create soap and glycerin. This method preserves moisturizing properties, retains skin-benefiting ingredients, and avoids harsh detergents found in commercial soaps. It’s gentle, nourishing, and ideal for all skin types.

Why is lye used in soap making?

Lye (sodium hydroxide) is an essential ingredient in traditional soap making. It reacts with oils and butters in a process called saponification, transforming them into soap and glycerin. While raw lye is highly alkaline, no lye remains in the final product—only pure, gentle soap that cleanses and nourishes the skin.

How do you use a lotion bar?

Simply warm the bar between your hands or glide it directly onto dry skin. Your body heat will melt the nourishing oils and butters, allowing you to massage them in for deep hydration.

Why is a lotion bar better than cream lotion?

Lotion bars are water-free, meaning they don’t require preservatives and deliver pure, concentrated moisture. They’re eco-friendly, long-lasting, and perfect for on-the-go hydration without spills. 

What are the product shelf lives?

  • Cold Process Soap: 12 months, but lasts longer when stored in a dry, well-ventilated area.
  • Lotion Bar: 6-12 months, depending on storage conditions. Keep it cool and dry to maintain texture and effectiveness.
